Scot's Maps

Scot carries a DeLorme GPS receiver connected to his Palm Pilot.  The Palm Pilot samples and records his position in latitude and longitude at regular intervals.  At the beginning of his trip he sampled every 5 minutes, but later changed to 10 minutes to conserve battery power.

Scot's GPS positions are plotted using the US Census Bureau's Tiger Mapping Service, a public-domain source for high-quality, detailed maps of any location in the United States, using public geographic data.

Three map scales are used.
