Scot is in Kearney. There were no signs from Route 30 to get to the Ft. Kearney
campground; he had to ask for directions at the Fast Eddie where he bought fuel for his
stove and a 16 oz. Beer. There's a phone a half mile from the campground. He didn't see
signs to the other campgrounds between Grand Island and Kearney so he doesn't know if all
the campgrounds shown in his map exist. He found a rail to trail from Gibbon (west of
Kearney) to this campground.

Before leaving Ft. Kearney, Scot followed the rail to trail and found the answer to
this question: Why is the route between Grand Island and Kearney loaded with campgrounds?
The campgrounds are converted sand pits. During WWII they were quarries.
Nebraska is harvesting corn. He passed by a mountain of corn just waiting to be picked
up for processing. He stopped for a picture. Scot made it to Lexington at 5:00pm. He has
time to make it to a campsite 8 miles away but he wants to have an early start tomorrow so
he decided to stay at the Minute Man Motel for $32. Tomorrow is going to be a long ride to
North Platte. For dinner, he had two chicken burritos with beans and rice and a XX beer at
a Menuderia.

For breakfast, he had 3 muffins at the panaderia. By 9am he had already done his
laundry. Scot arrived Gothenburg at 1:30pm. He stopped by the Pony Express Station but it
was closed. He had his picture taken while he was there. It's a bit chilly but it's
perfect riding for him. He arrived North Platte at 4:30pm. He asked the lady at a bike
store where he could find thorn resistant tubes for his front tires and she pointed him to
another bike store.
"I found a friendly bike store owner who is putting me up for the night. Her
husband and neighbor have a wired net connection, so I'm availing myself of their
machine... I got a chance to look at the web site, John. Tres Cool. I hope you can easily
slide this data in as well! Tomorrow I'm on to Ogallala; should see Colorado by Friday
evening! Thanks for all your help!"
